ah man i almost miss judo.  capoeira is too fun.
judo and the TV show Gummi Bears were about the only things my little brother and i agreed on.  it was pretty awesome throwing each other in the living room.
my mom would be in the basement, hear it, and she would yell up “HEY! WHAT THE H E DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS IS GOING ON UP THERE?!”   and i’d say “again.” and BAM! i’d be in the air and then slapping the ground.
she would yell more and sean would shout back “WE ARE THROWING EACH OTHER! DEASHI HARAI! DEEEE AAAAHSHIIIII HURRRAAAAAAAAI, MOM!  JESUS!  ITS HOMEWORK!  HOOOME WOOORK!”  and she would come upstairs to find us were smiling and happy and flying through the air.  the look of defeat on her face that she didnt get to break up a real fight or scold anyone was kind of funny.  ”well… don’t… break anything…” and she’d walk off.  haha.
i quit when we started Osaekomi because i was little miss puberty and felt weird about being manhandled by boys.  haha.
weird.  i just remembered i wore my father’s gi.  i was like 12.  i must’ve looked ridiculous.  now i wonder whether i wore it because no one would buy me my own or because i insisted on it.  it also had little splatters of blood here and there because my dad fought a lot.
little known fact: my dad’s gang name was the Mad Scot on account of his father being from Glasgow and his seemingly fearless attitude towards creeps.  something i guess i inherited from him - a lot of time in the principal’s office.
little known fact: although my dad was a tough guy, he chose college over vietnam.  when my “uncle” ralphy came home from ‘nam with a monkey on his back and a necklace made of human ears and thumbs, i think my dad was pretty happy with his decision.
